PlayWrite is committed to being conscious and respectful of our fellow humans and the spaces they inhabit
"Sharing stories is at the heart of PlayWrite’s work. We would like to honor the original storytellers of this land by acknowledging that the Portland Metro area rests on traditional village sites of the Multnomah, Wasco, Cowlitz, Kathlamet, Clackamas, Bands of Chinook, Tualatin, Kalapuya, Molalla, and many other tribes who made their homes along the Columbia River. We also acknowledge the history of the Portland Metro area as a destination site for the Indian Relocation Act of 1956, which coerced many Native people to leave their homes on tribal land and assimilate into the dominant culture. Because of this history, our region is home to the 9th largest urban Indian population in the United States. As settlers and guests on these lands, we respect the work of Indigenous leaders and families, and pledge to make ongoing efforts to recognize their knowledge, creativity, and resilience."
